London (26 March 2024): A provider of novel battery technology based on screen printing – Printed Energy – has joined the IoT M2M Council (IMC), which is the largest trade association serving qualified IoT Adopters worldwide. The Arizona (USA) based company is just rolling out the first commercial applications for its technology, which include integrated batteries for smart labels and RFID tags and expects to see follow-on applications as far afield as wearable biosensors and medical devices. The IMC is comprised of 28,000 qualified enterprise users and product makers/designers (OEMs) that deploy remote connected devices – a group with strong demand for simplified battery technology.
“Our safe, sustainable, and flexible batteries will power a new generation of IoT application” says Shailesh Patel, the company’s SVP of Product Management, who will represent Printed Energy on the IMC’s Board of Governors, “And we see the IMC as the largest community of people with obvious uses for our technology. It’s important that IMC’s membership becomes familiar with printed batteries – for their own benefit and that of the IoT industry.”
Printed Energy’s batteries come on an ultra-thin (0.4-1 mm) substrates, they’re made from abundant materials like Zinc and Manganese, they’re non-flammable, non-toxic, and environmentally safe, and they can be integrated into remote devices without wires. The company sees broad applications for its technology in any application that requires a compact energy source, with particular affinity for wearables and smart packaging. IMC membership covers 27 different vertical markets, with pluralities of its rank-and-file Adopter Members involved in supply chain management and product design.
“It’s true that a lot of IoT technology is mature but Printed Energy underscores the fact that a lot of it is just coming on line,” says IMC Chairman Sam Colley, Digital Connectivity Portfolio Strategist at SIM technology provider Giesecke+Devrient, “I think our Adopter community will be very interested in hearing about this, as will the IoT solutions providers on the IMC board!”
