Walmart México and Central America is expanding its partnership with Vusion to deploy the EdgeSense connected store platform. The rollout will cover all Walmart Express stores by the end of 2026 and will subsequently expand to the company’s Supercenter fleet.
The initiative follows a similar deployment in Walmart US stores and marks the first large-scale implementation of EdgeSense in Latin America. The platform integrates electronic shelf labels with computer vision and artificial intelligence to automate store operations and improve inventory accuracy.
Paul Lewellen, Chief Operating Officer of Walmart Mexico, said the deployment will modernise store operations and allow associates to focus on customer service. He stated that the initiative is a significant step in strengthening operational capabilities and improving the shopping experience.
The initial deployment includes more than 1.7 million electronic shelf labels. It also features over 180,000 EdgeSense smart rails. The platform uses computer vision and AI to create a unified operating system for physical stores. It provides real-time retail data for merchandising and shopper engagement. A pilot programme is also planned for the Bodega store format to evaluate further expansion.
