To help retailers reopen responsibly post-lockdown, Checkpoint Systems has introduced a way for stores to measure accurately the temperature of shoppers as they enter.

SmartTemperature provides fast and accurate alerts to high body temperature readings. The technology uses AI facial temperature measurement sensors, powered by intelligent analysis algorithms, to assess whether an individual has a fever from a 4m distance.

Tracking temperatures of up to ten people at a time with an accuracy of up to ±0.3˚C, it takes the temperature on the face of the individual helping to reduce false alarms. It emits an audio-visual alert when detecting high temperatures, which are delivered via tablet or desktop so businesses can make live, accurate decisions to reinforce safeguarding measures

This follows the New Jersey company’s recent launch of SmartOccupancy, which helps retailers view the number of shoppers in a store in real time, while helping managers deploy staff efficiently. While this has advantages in normal times to deter theft and reduce shrink rates, in this climate the system will help keep staff and shoppers safely distanced.

Coupled with Checkpoint’s cloud-based software portal, Halo, businesses can access enterprise-wide analytics in the cloud. This provides an analysis of trends across all locations, helps monitor and meet compliance needs, and enables threshold limits to be amended if required.
