PlusAI has released an update to its autonomous driving software that introduces capabilities for night driving and construction zone navigation. According to PlusAI, SuperDrive 6.0 is a move toward its target of launching fully driverless commercial operations with factory-built trucks in 2027.
The software is currently being used to move commercial freight on major corridors in Texas. PlusAI reported that the new version utilises a ten-fold increase in AI model training speed, allowing for faster deployment of features and validation across different operating environments.
Technical advancements in SuperDrive 6.0 include:
- 2X improvement in predictive accuracy for merging vehicles and pedestrians
- 3X reduction in data labelling costs through imitation and reinforcement learning
- Distributed compute architecture supporting NVIDIA DRIVE Orin and Thor chips
- Transformer-based “Reflex” layer for advanced motion forecasting
- System resilience against sensor degradation and hardware failure
David Liu, CEO of PlusAI, said the addition of night driving and construction zone handling allows autonomous trucks to operate 24/7, potentially doubling vehicle utilisation for freight carriers. The company’s development pipeline is built on more than 7 million miles of real-world driving data collected in the U.S., Europe, and Asia.
PlusAI is currently in the process of becoming a publicly listed company through a merger with Churchill Capital Corp IX. The firm maintains partnerships with the Traton Group (Scania, MAN), Hyundai Motor Company, and Iveco Group to integrate its virtual driver software into next-generation heavy-duty trucks.
