Serbian manufacturer Mikroe say its latest click board can help users develop real-time location and telemetry systems using UWB communications.

The RTLS UWB Click uses motion-aware UWB ranging for personnel and equipment localisation.

The compact add-on board is designed for high-precision real-time location, distance measurement and motion-aware tracking using UWB communications. It is based on Qorvo’s (www.qorvo.com) DWM3001C, a two-way ranging (TWR) communication module that combines a DW3110 UWB transceiver with an nRF52833 Bluetooth LE SoC and a LIS2DH12 accelerometer for all-in-one tracking.

“This approach is perfect for asset tracking and automated inventory management where sub-decimetre location accuracy is required,” said Nebojsa Matic, CEO of Mikroe (www.mikroe.com). “It can help improve safety and operational efficiency in large factories, and is suitable for indoor navigation in hospitals, shopping malls and airports where GPS signals are unavailable.”

Other features include an integrated planar UWB antenna, power management circuitry, support for IEEE 802.15.4-2015 and IEEE 802.15.4z BPRF standards, operation on UWB channels 5 and 9, data rates up to 6.8Mbit/s, and AES 128/256 security. In developing this, Mikroe worked with Leaps, a company based in the Czech Republic that focuses on building and marketing real-time location and telemetry systems based on UWB. Leaps (www.leapslabs.com) focuses on providing RTLS hardware and software, design services and technology licensing.

There are 877 ready-to-use, embedded projects on EmbeddedWiki (embeddedwiki.com/filter?size=12&click-boards%5b%5d=rtls-uwb-click) featuring this Click board. The MikroBus-enabled Click board family now numbers over 2000 compact add-on development boards.

The RTLS UWB Click also features the ClickID function, which enables automatic identification by the host system, simplifying use. Devices can be used on any host system supporting the MikroBus standard, and come with the MikroSDK open-source libraries, offering flexibility for evaluation and customisation.
