Eviden, the cybersecurity arm of the Atos Group, is partnering Italian digital group Almaviva to provide Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS) in Italy.
The collaboration focuses on deploying a national-scale Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) to protect vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communications. It is envisaged that it will accelerate adoption of advanced road logistics in Italy through securing infrastructure and enabling adoption of secure and reliable techniques such as platooning, green light optimised advisory (GLOSA), dynamic load and yard management, and enhanced blind spot safety systems.
The partnership supports the C-Roads Italy programme, a national initiative aimed at reducing road congestion and accidents through connected vehicle technology. The PKI system ensures that messages exchanged between vehicles and roadside infrastructure are authenticated and remain confidential.
Technical aspects of the partnership include:
- Distribution of Eviden’s C-ITS PKI through Almaviva’s MOOVA mobility platform
- Implementation of secure digital trust domains for V2X communication
- Provision of SaaS-based hosting, technical support, and maintenance
- Compliance with European interoperability standards for cross-border transport
Yann Vincent, head of cybersecurity products at Eviden, said the solution is built on high-assurance cryptographic infrastructure designed for mobile and connected road transport. The system allows public and private operators to deploy communication stations that are natively interoperable with other European networks.
Almaviva, which employs more than 40,000 people, will integrate the security infrastructure into its modular mobility platform. Eviden currently manages similar C-ITS security programmes for the French government and holds more than 2,100 patents in the cybersecurity and AI sectors.
