Canadian logistics technology company Descartes has acquired Extensiv, a California-based provider of warehouse management and fulfilment for third-party logistics providers (3PLs), for $120m.

The acquisition extends Descartes’ warehouse and inventory management capabilities while deepening its reach into the 3PL and ecommerce fulfilment market.

Extensiv helps 3PLs manage inventory, orders, B2B and B2C fulfilment, and billing across a connected network of sales channels, ecommerce platforms, online marketplaces and carriers. That generates omnichannel fulfilment data to fuel AI capabilities for warehouse operators and their customers. Extensiv’s AI capabilities help users access insights, improve decision-making and reduce manual effort.

“3PLs are under constant pressure to fulfil faster, scale flexibly and support the evolving needs of modern brands,” said Mikel Richardson from Descartes. “Descartes has long been a trusted technology provider for 3PLs. Extensiv strengthens that position by adding more participants, more contextually rich operational data and fulfilment intelligence to the Descartes Global Logistics Network.”

Scott Sangster from Descartes added: “We’re excited to welcome Extensiv’s customers, partners and employees. The combination of Extensiv with Descartes’ transportation, connectivity, visibility, trade intelligence, customs compliance and last-mile delivery, enables logistics service providers to expand their offerings and scale operations with a single technology provider versus a patchwork of vendors.”

Extensiv is headquartered in California. Descartes acquired Extensiv for approximately $120m, satisfied from cash on hand. This follows Descartes’ announced acquisition last month of Tai (tai-software.com), a business that provides AI-powered transportation management for freight brokers.

Descartes (www.descartes.com) powers more responsive, efficient, secure and sustainable international and domestic supply chains by uniting logistics-intensive businesses on its Global Logistics Network (GLN). Shippers, carriers and logistics service providers connect and collaborate on the GLN leveraging technology, data and AI to manage last-kilometre deliveries, domestic and international shipments, transportation rating and payment, global trade research, customs compliance, and various regulatory processes.

Extensiv (www.extensiv.com), formerly 3PL Central, partners with warehouse professionals and entrepreneurial brands to transform their fulfilment operations. Through its network of more than 1500 connected 3PLs and a suite of integrated, cloud-native warehouse, order, inventory and integration management software, it helps merchants and brands fulfil demand anywhere with flexibility and scale without painful platform migrations as they grow. More than 25,000 logistics professionals and thousands of brands use Extensiv.
