Virginia-based CargoSense has acquired Silicon Valley firm Adapt-IP, a developer of patented wireless technology for industrial operations, to boost its data centre supply chain offering.
The acquisition brings wireless technology capabilities in-house and positions CargoSense to advance a comprehensive platform for data centre supply chains.
Data centre builds operate under intense timeline pressure. Equipment must move through warehouses and staging yards on exact schedules. A single delay in asset movement or site logistics cascades across the entire project. Data centre operators require systems that detect exceptions before they become delays and coordinate immediate response before costs escalate.
CargoSense specialises in exception management and resolution for complex mission-critical builds. Data centre operators use CargoSense to detect and act on exceptions in real time. Deterministic agents resolve issues automatically, while the round-the-clock human agent response team manages tasks requiring human decision-making. This acquisition complements that by bringing wireless connectivity and real-time asset tracking technology in-house.
Adapt-IP’s patented wireless technology operates at scale in production environments today. The system delivers precise location tracking across multiple facilities, provides long-range connectivity and monitors environmental conditions.
“Our customers face increasing complexity in managing their supply chains at hyperscale,” said Rich Kilmer, CEO of CargoSense. “Paired with real-time data from the physical environment, our service automatically detects and resolves problems before they become delays. Combining Adapt-IP’s expertise in silicon and device capabilities with our deep understanding of our customers’ supply chain challenges enables us to meet those challenges head on.”
Adapt-IP’s engineering team, led by CEO Michael McNamara, will drive CargoSense’s hardware strategy and how it supports customer requirements, simplified deployments, systems integration and broadening market options.
“This merger accelerates our roadmap,” said McNamara. “CargoSense has the customer relationships and market understanding to deploy our patented technology across data centre and manufacturing operations.”
CargoSense provides inbound supply-chain oversight for data centre construction and fit-out, the physical flow of high-value equipment and materials into facilities. Founded in 2012 by Kilmer, CargoSense (cargosense.com) operates globally with certifications from more than 60 airlines across 50 countries and is headquartered in Reston, Virginia.
Headquartered in Silicon Valley, Adapt-IP (adapt-ip.com) enables factories and warehouses to track equipment and inventory and monitor operations while avoiding the cost and complexity of traditional systems. Its flagship product, the Spatial IQ, combines short-, medium- and long-range wireless communication in a single low-cost tracker, allowing companies to deploy the technology without significant infrastructure investment. The system delivers three-dimensional location accuracy to within a metre, covers up to 1.8 million square metres from a single access point, and provides real-time exception alerting across supply chain and production environments.
