RFID and BLE IoT specialist Identiv is partnering packaging reusability specialist IFCO to enhance traceability across the fresh grocery supply chain. The two companies will develop a BLE-enabled smart label to enable real-time monitoring of IFCO’s global pool of reusable fresh food packaging containers (RPCs).
IFCO operates the world’s largest pool of reusable packaging containers, with over 400 million units in circulation in fresh food logistics globally. Through the collaboration, advanced BLE smart labels will be integrated into IFCO’s existing RPC network.
“We are excited to announce this agreement with IFCO that leverages our expertise in BLE design and multi-component manufacturing capabilities for this innovative application,” said Kirsten Newquist, CEO of Identiv. “The ability to provide precise location and temperature data through a cost-effective and scalable BLE smart label will be transformative for the fresh food industry.”
Dr Sebastian Grams, Chief Digital Officer of IFCO, said “We are pleased to partner with Identiv on this pioneering BLE-enabled packaging solution, which will provide unprecedented visibility into our supply chain. These smart labels will be instrumental for optimising the logistics of our RPC pool, further enhancing our SmartCycle and allowing retailers and growers to improve their supply chains, reducing food waste and ensuring the highest quality of fresh food for consumers worldwide.”
