Pennsylvania-based utility metering company Tesco Metering is renaming its Nighthawk business unit to Tesco AMI following the division’s full integration into its US manufacturing and engineering operations.

The operations are in Bristol, Pennsylvania, and the move is said to reinforce the company’s commitment to advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) and smart grid innovation that help utilities deliver accurate, reliable and efficient power to users worldwide.

The Nighthawk business – recognised for its innovation in mesh-cellular AMI communications – is now unified under the Tesco brand to align the entire portfolio under one name, serving utilities across metering laboratories, field testing and communications.

Tesco AMI will continue to design, engineer and support platforms including:

• Adaptiv AMI: A zero-infrastructure smart grid option combining cellular and mesh networking for scalable, self-healing communication without costly gateways or collectors.
• Fibre hub: A high-speed fibre-mesh node engineered for utilities using fibre backhaul to enable real-time metering and data aggregation.
• DirectConnect: A secure, plug-and-play LTE device that integrates seamlessly with existing metering systems such as Itron MV-90 and Aclara MeterMate, ensuring interoperability and future readiness.

The transition to Tesco AMI strengthens its position as a supplier to electric, water and gas utilities, combining metering reliability with AMI connectivity. It helps utilities deploy AMI rapidly without building traditional network infrastructure. They gain real-time operational visibility with outage alerts, voltage monitoring and predictive analytics. It integrates seamlessly with legacy and future systems using open standards and secure communication protocols.

Users should get more accurate usage insight and faster restoration.
