The City of Woodstock, Georgia, has adopted a comprehensive transportation plan that includes a citywide sidewalk connectivity plan, real-time traffic monitoring, and preparations for connected vehicle technology.

Woodstock is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. It is the tenth fastest-growing suburb in the United States, with recent census growth regularly exceeding 100%.

The city has decided that it will prepare a citywide masterplan, expand the use of real-time traffic monitoring, adaptive signal timing, and prepare for connected vehicle technology.

Woodstock is also looking to implement smart parking technologies to guide drivers to available spaces and reduce circling. It will also replace stop signs and signals where possible, in order to improve traffic flow.

The city is aiming to expand pedestrian and multimodal transport, with more facilities for pedestrians and cyclists.

“This plan reflects the voices of our community,” Deputy City Manager Coty Thigpen said. “From better sidewalk connectivity to more transparency on project progress, the public’s input is shaping not only this update but also the future of transportation in Woodstock. The next full-scale overhaul in 2026 will build on this foundation and take an even broader look at how we connect people and places.”

Mayor Michael Caldwell praised the CTP as a hallmark of Woodstock’s proactive planning: “Cities our size and scale do not typically have a comprehensive transportation plan, and we adopted ours before the County did. This is a big deal, and we should be proud of it. It’s why our city continues to receive strong investment from state, regional, and federal partners.”
