The United States government has issued a $2.49 million grant to support smart city planning for Indonesia’s new capital, Nusantara (IKN).

The funding, provided through the US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA), will develop technical blueprints for the city’s digital infrastructure.

IKN Authority head Basuki Hadimuljono said the assistance will produce strategic documents, including smart city enterprise architecture, investment models, and a capacity-building roadmap. The project also covers the development of procurement-ready request for proposal (RFP) packages and an Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) compliance framework.

The technical implementation will be managed by a consortium led by Eficens Systems Inc. Other partners include Frost & Sullivan, ASECH Indonesia, Mirekel, and PT Searce Technologies Indonesia.

The grant follows Indonesia’s broader efforts to attract international investment for the $32 billion capital project in East Kalimantan. IKN Officials stated the digital systems are being designed to align with global ESG principles to ensure transparency and structured implementation.
