Traffic and Parking Control Co. (TAPCO) has acquired MS2 (Midwestern Software Solutions). The deal combines TAPCO’s intelligent transportation systems (ITS) edge and device hardware systems with MS2’s cloud-based transportation data management and analytics software.

MS2 provides traffic count data and analytics to more than 250 public sector agencies, including over half of the State Departments of Transportation in the US. Its modular platform allows agencies to manage and visualise traffic data for road safety planning and maintenance. TAPCO intends to integrate these capabilities into a single platform for monitoring connected roadway infrastructure.

“Joining forces with MS2 is an opportunity to expand the industry’s standard traffic data management system to better serve our collective customers,” said Eric Stangel, President and CEO of TAPCO. He added that the acquisition would empower agencies to manage assets while enhancing pedestrian and roadway safety.

The combined entity will offer a vertically integrated model that includes manufacturing, distribution, and software services. The platform is designed to provide a “single-pane of glass” solution, linking physical traffic safety devices with real-time monitoring and data intelligence. TAPCO stated the move supports its mission to connect roadway infrastructure through smart technology.

Founded in 1956, TAPCO manufactures intelligent transportation systems (ITS) for states and municipalities. MS2 pioneered the cloud-based Transportation Data Management System (TDMS), which has become a standard for asset management in the US. The companies stated the partnership would enable faster innovation to meet the evolving needs of the transportation market.
