Japanese aircraft developer SkyDrive has partnered with Air India and Suzuki to evaluate electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) flight routes for emergency medical logistics across India’s most heavily congested cities.
The initiative targets severe gridlock in major metropolitan areas such as Mumbai and New Delhi, where chronic traffic congestion routinely delays the transport of time-sensitive medical supplies, organs, and pharmaceuticals.
The consortium is mapping initial flight paths to transport radioactive isotopes—which have a short half-life and require immediate delivery for cancer diagnostics and therapeutics—from manufacturing plants in Mumbai to local hospitals. In the Delhi National Capital Region, the companies are assessing routes for emergency organ transport between major medical facilities.
By bypassing ground traffic, the operators estimate that inter-hospital transport times in Delhi could be reduced from up to 90 minutes by ambulance to between 10 and 15 minutes by air.
The medical logistics evaluation follows a July 2026 agreement between the three companies to study the feasibility of urban air mobility in India. SkyDrive, which began manufacturing its eVTOL aircraft at a Suzuki plant in March 2024, is currently seeking aviation certification with the aim of launching commercial services by 2028.
