US drone manufacturer Skydio’s “Drone as First Responder” (DFR) command platform has processed more than 10 million calls for service.
The software, which integrates with over 25 public safety systems including Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) and gunshot detection, is used by US emergency agencies to deploy autonomous drones to incident sites.
The system allows operators to launch aircraft within seconds of a 911 call being logged.
The platform currently integrates with hardware and software from vendors including Motorola, Axon, and SoundThinking. According to the company, these integrations allow drones to reach scenes and provide live video feeds to command centres, often before ground units arrive.
Skydio, which provides drones to more than 3,800 agencies across the US military and public safety sectors, said the platform also automates the uploading of flight footage to digital evidence management systems to maintain compliance with judicial standards.
