Shanghai has launched a series of digital signage installations across the city, as part of its effort to create a more resident-centric urban development.

The installations, which offer a visual interpretation of “Smart Cloud Shanghai,” provide information on various digital services and applications available in the city. The signs integrate telecommunications-based technology, including computing power, 5G-A connectivity, and artificial intelligence (AI), into public displays.

According to China Telecom Shanghai Branch, the signage has quickly gained public interest, serving as a point of entry for residents seeking to understand the city’s digital transformation efforts.

The city’s digital infrastructure, which includes 10-gigabit networks, enables various services such as parental controls and online protection for children, consistent performance at large events using 5G-A connectivity, and access to AI application marketplaces for businesses.

These installations are part of Shanghai’s “Intelligent & Beneficial City” initiative, which aims to modernize the city’s infrastructure. The digital signage is also designed to support the scalable “AI CITY” model developed by China Telecom Shanghai Branch, intended for large metropolitan areas worldwide.
