Canadian public technology holding company Quarterhill has entered a multi-year contract with the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT). The agreement covers maintenance, repair, and installation of traffic monitoring systems across the state’s roadway network.

The agreement, contracted through Quarterhill subsidiary International Road Dynamics, involves oversight of approximately 95 Weigh-in-Motion (WIM) stations and 50 Traffic Volume System (TVS) sites. These facilities are for monitoring freight mobility, transportation planning, and roadway safety. Quarterhill will provide inspection, calibration, and system upgrades to ensure reliable operation of the state’s traffic-data collection infrastructure.

“By working closely with transportation agencies such as NJDOT, we can help ensure traffic-monitoring infrastructure remains accurate, reliable, and ready to support planning, freight movement, and safety initiatives,” said Chuck Myers, CEO of Quarterhill.

The multi-year contract covers maintenance and repair for 95 Weigh-in-Motion stations. It also includes 50 Traffic Volume System sites across the state. Services involve system upgrades and installation oversight for monitoring equipment and sensors. The data supports traffic monitoring, freight mobility, and federal reporting requirements.

Quarterhill’s role includes the maintenance and calibration of statewide monitoring systems and providing installation oversight for new sensors and equipment. The company is also positioning its software-as-a-service (SaaS) portfolio to support future data-driven transportation programmes in New Jersey. The partnership is intended to support federal reporting requirements and long-term infrastructure planning.
