Parsons has been awarded a $33 million contract by the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) to modernise the state’s intelligent transportation systems. The company will deploy its iNET smart mobility platform to manage traffic operations across all 11 NYSDOT districts.

The contract covers the design, development, integration, and maintenance of a statewide Transportation Systems Management and Operations (TSMO) software system. The project aims to centralise New York’s freeway and arterial management into a single view to improve coordination and response times.

As part of the modernisation effort, Parsons will replace central processing unit cards for more than 6,000 traffic signal controllers throughout the state. This hardware upgrade is intended to enhance the reliability and efficiency of the existing road network.

“The modernisation of New York’s transportation systems reflects a forward-looking investment that will enhance agencies’ abilities to operate safer, smarter, and more resilient transportation networks,” said Mark Fialkowski, president of Infrastructure North America for Parsons.

The award follows similar statewide deployments by Parsons in Georgia and New Jersey. The company has previously delivered district-level traffic management systems within New York.
