Ontario-based Miovision has introduced a traffic signal optimisation platform that uses Generative AI (GenAI) to automate urban road management and reduce congestion. The new system allows for proactive, remote adjustments to traffic signals from a cloud-based interface.
The solution integrates a GenAI assistant named “Mateo” with new signal optimisation and controller management tools. The system analyses live and historical data to identify poorly performing intersections and automatically generates new timing plans to improve vehicle flow and pedestrian safety.
According to the company, the platform can reduce the time required to deploy new signal timing plans by up to 50%. Traditional manual retiming methods often occur only every three to five years due to high costs and labour requirements.
The platform supports multi-vendor hardware through standard industry protocols, allowing cities to monitor live telemetry and push updates to intersection controllers without on-site intervention. The system is designed to help municipal engineers manage shifting travel patterns caused by construction or changing urban density.
“Cities are under pressure to make streets work better for everyone, but traffic teams often have to manage modern mobility problems with outdated solutions,” said Kurtis McBride, Miovision’s co-founder and CEO. “This gives agencies a faster, more controlled way to act on traffic data.”
