London’s Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) has selected BetterFleet to provide charge management software for its fleet electrification programme, as the force aims for a carbon net-zero fleet by 2030.

The MPS currently operates approximately 5,500 vehicles, making it one of the largest emergency service fleets in Europe. Around 30 per cent of the fleet is currently comprised of electric or hybrid vehicles, with plans to add a further 250 electric cars and motorcycles over the next year.

The BetterFleet software will manage charging operations across police depots and public networks. The system includes features for the automatic prioritisation of emergency response vehicles, cost allocation to specific departments, and real-time monitoring of vehicle readiness. The platform is built on SOC 2-compliant architecture to meet public safety cybersecurity requirements.

The deployment is intended to manage energy constraints across shared urban infrastructure in London. BetterFleet already provides similar management services for the Go-Ahead Group’s electric bus fleet in the capital, as well as transit operators in Toronto and Sydney.
