The Egyptian government has established a new joint-venture company to operate a smart transport system across the country’s expanding smart cities. The agreement was signed at the government’s headquarters in New Alamein City between affiliates of the Ministry of Housing and private sector partners.

The new entity, Modon Misr Transport Company, is a partnership between Madinet Masr for Asset and Facility Management, an affiliate of the New Urban Communities Authority (NUCA), and the Future of Egypt for Sustainable Development Authority. The project also involves Mowasalat Misr, a firm in which the National Bank of Egypt holds a stake.

The company will initially operate a fleet of 200 vehicles equipped with intelligent operating systems. The infrastructure includes an integrated fleet management system with central and regional operations centres, smart equipment for stations and depots, and an electronic payment system developed with the National Bank of Egypt.

The project is designed to support the Egypt Vision 2030 goals by creating an integrated and environmentally sustainable public transport network. The system will apply smart transport technologies to the challenge of providing transport to the new fast expanding smart cities.

A cabinet statement confirmed the project will adopt a modern operating model to improve the efficiency of urban services. “The project is part of ongoing coordination to develop a modern urban transport network that relies on digital solutions to keep pace with Egypt’s rapid urban expansion,” the statement said.
