Dubai Municipality has launched a pilot of a smart camera system to improve monitoring and enforcement of public cleanliness. The system uses AI and real-time data analysis to identify areas of concern.

The trial includes the installation of cameras on waste collection vehicles. These capture images in real-time and display them on digital dashboards for field teams to respond quickly. The system aims to reduce littering, improper disposal of bulky waste, and other practices that harm Dubai’s appearance.

According to officials, the project is part of a strategic approach to enhance monitoring systems and support data-driven decision-making. Engineer Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita said the pilot phase will be evaluated before expanding the system’s implementation.

The smart camera system is aligned with Dubai Municipality’s efforts to improve sustainability and quality of life, as outlined in the Dubai Integrated Waste Management Strategy 2041. Engineer Adel Al Marzouqi noted that the system helps document violations accurately while protecting community privacy.
