Direct Drive wheeled-legged urban robot

Direct Drive Tech has introduced TITA, a wheeled-legged robot to navigate complex urban infrastructure such as curbs, slopes, and uneven ground for delivery and inspection tasks.

The robot features eight quasi-direct-drive joint modules providing 120 N·m of peak torque and a dynamic payload capacity of 10kg. It is equipped with 100 TOPS of onboard AI computing power and a magnesium-alloy structure. The unit is designed for continuous operation in temperatures ranging from -10°C to 45°C and utilises hot-swappable batteries for field service.

TITA is intended for use in smart-city initiatives, including last-mile logistics, industrial inspection, and public service roles. The platform is built on an open Linux kernel and is compatible with ROS 2, allowing developers to integrate the robot into existing urban automation systems.

The company stated that the hybrid wheeled-legged design allows the robot to maintain the efficiency of a wheeled vehicle on flat surfaces while retaining the ability to clear obstacles that typically limit standard service robots.

“TITA helps teams bring essential items and services closer to residents, reducing unnecessary walking for older adults, children, and people with limited mobility,” the Direct Drive development team said in a technical summary.
