Argo Corporation has launched an electric transit infrastructure and routing service in the Town of Caledon, Ontario, securing a $4.5 million contract for an initial 15-month operating term.
The deployment utilises Argo’s Smart Routing platform, an integrated system comprising electric vehicles, charging hardware, and operational software. The service enables residents across the Bolton, Caledon East, and Mayfield West districts to request point-to-point transport via a mobile application or telephone.
Functioning as a micro-transit layer, the system connects local passengers to established regional fixed-route networks, including GO Transit, Brampton Transit, and York Region Transit. The infrastructure model is designed to extend municipal transit coverage and bridge the “last mile” gap without the heavy capital expenditure typically required for traditional fixed-line expansion.
Caledon represents the third municipality to adopt the Argo network. According to the company, a previous deployment in the nearby town of Bradford West Gwillimbury resulted in a doubling of average daily ridership and a 50 percent reduction in the operating cost per ride.
“Caledon went from agreement signing to a fully operating electric Smart Routing transit network across three communities in approximately three months,” said Praveen Arichandran, co-founder and CEO of Argo.
