The City of Brownsville, Texas, has extended its partnership with SHI International to develop an AI-powered public safety and smart city solution. The project integrates Centific’s VerityAI, NVIDIA AI, and Lenovo’s AI-accelerated platforms into a unified municipal framework.
The solution uses Centific’s VerityAI to interpret visual data from safety cameras, identifying incidents and providing real-time insights to city officials. The system is built on the NVIDIA Metropolis Blueprint for video search and summarisation and utilises NVIDIA Cosmos for processing large volumes of visual data. The architecture is designed to be modular, allowing for future expansion into traffic management, fire detection, and energy optimisation.
“This technology will help us see across our city with clarity and make decisions based on real-time insight, not guesswork or legacy data,” said Jorge Cardenas, Chief Information Officer for the City of Brownsville. He added that the infrastructure will support economic development for local businesses and hospitals.
The solution combines Centific’s VerityAI with NVIDIA and Lenovo platforms. It uses visual AI agents for video search and summarisation. The architecture integrates on-premises and cloud computing with networking and cybersecurity. The framework is designed to support traffic management, fire detection, and energy optimisation.
SHI International, a global technology solutions provider with $16 billion in annual revenue, designed the scalable architecture for the project. The company’s public sector division assists municipalities in leveraging grants to achieve smart city objectives. The Brownsville initiative is positioned as a blueprint for how communities can use AI-accelerated technologies to strengthen resilience and accelerate growth.
