A Brazilian delegation has presented studies on urban AI and smart city infrastructure to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) during a meeting in Geneva. The contributions were submitted to Study Commission 20 (CE 20), the group responsible for Internet of Things (IoT) and smart city standards.

The delegation included representatives from the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) and the University of Brasília (UnB). The meeting, held between 11 May and 21 May, focused on advancing international standards for AI applications within urban environments and the development of IoT frameworks.

The Brazilian contribution aims to influence global technical standards that govern how cities integrate automated systems and data-driven governance. The research addresses the intersection of AI capabilities with the requirements of modern smart city infrastructure.

Anatel stated that the committee’s work contributes to “relevant advances in the topics of artificial intelligence, smart cities and IoT.” The agency’s participation is part of a broader effort to align Brazilian domestic technology policy with international telecommunications standards.
