Archer Aviation has launched a multi-city flight tour across California, demonstrating the operational maturity of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft for routine urban and regional transport.

The flight programme, which began with routes in Northern California, is designed to test the practical viability of replacing 60-to-90-minute car commutes with 10-to-20-minute flights. By connecting urban centres including San Jose, Oakland, and San Francisco, the deployment illustrates how electric air taxis could bypass ground traffic and reduce congestion across metropolitan areas.

The flights utilise Archer’s Midnight aircraft, a piloted, four-passenger eVTOL engineered for rapid, back-to-back operations with zero operating emissions. The current deployment follows more than 70 test flights completed in August, including a piloted roundtrip between Salinas and Monterey.

To support the scaling of eVTOL transport, Archer is concurrently deploying interoperable charging infrastructure. The hardware rollout, managed through a consortium with BETA Technologies and Macquarie Capital, establishes the physical ground network required to sustain high-frequency electric aviation between cities.

“This is our biggest step yet toward making air taxis an everyday reality in cities,” said Adam Goldstein, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Archer.

Following the Northern California routes, the company plans to expand the flight programme to Los Angeles, Texas, and Florida to further validate the integration of eVTOLs into existing regional transit networks.
