Aimmo sorts data for smart cities

South Korea-based AI and data company Aimmo has updated its smart labelling inspection technology so it automatically classifies data for autonomous driving and smart city use.

The technology reduces the learning data generation process, and comprises a custom model that applies auto-labelling using existing data from a client’s project and a preset model in which machine learning is completed in advance using datasets collected by Aimmo.

Aimmo says it is the first globally to develop these models and has been servicing them since the second half of last year.

With this update, it has expanded its smart labelling support. Now it can cover 2D object detection, semantic segmentation to recognise a collection of pixels, instance segmentation to recognise a segmented area for each detected object, and interactive segmentation for automatically segmenting data with just a few clicks.

A noticeable update is 3D object detection, which supports lidar sensor data, an essential element in autonomous driving and smart city applications. The technology is capable of smart labelling while recognising the side, back and front of data to be collected.

The company has also launched a curation function to refine projects. This function does not immediately label all the collected data, but allows them to be labelled for sorting. This enables Aimmo to develop an autonomous driving model by sorting out only the necessary data as they are collected from a vehicle equipped with lidar and camera sensors. This improves the efficiency of labelling operations.

Aimmo anticipates more accurate and cost-effective project operation as the updated function will eliminate data bottlenecks by cutting out the time wasted on managing unnecessary data and reducing the human resources and expenses involved in data labelling.

“With this update to Aimmo’s smart labelling and inspection technology, we can now provide a wider range of state-of-the-art services,” said Doyle Chung, head of global sales at Aimmo. “Soon we will launch an additional smart labelling function with the SaaS type and data cloud linked. Through steady R&D and Aimmo’s expertise, we will build a systematic service able to respond quickly to the variety of needs in autonomous driving and smart cities.”

At the heart of Aimmo’s smart automation is its proprietary AI-driven approach to the acquisition, curation, labelling and augmentation of structured, highly accurate training data that are delivered faster to end users through Aimmo’s automated data operations process.

Aimmo is part of the Born2Global Centre, a full-cycle service platform that supports the expansion of promising companies. Established in 2013 under the Ministry of Science & ICT, Born2Global has been building a start-up ecosystem in Korea and continues to expand and transform start-ups so they are engaged, well equipped and connected with the global market.
