Visitors to this month’s Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (Saba Saba) in Tanzania are learning how smart home technology can help them reduce electricity bills.

At the pavilion of local electricity supplier Tanesco, people can receive education about smart home technology that simplifies the use of electricity by enabling the user to control electrical appliances from anywhere.

Through the Smart Life digital system, a user can turn on and off electrical appliances using a mobile phone via the internet, even when away from home. The technology aims to increase convenience, security and control in the use of electricity in homes and offices.

In addition to controlling electrical appliances online, the system lets the user monitor daily electricity usage and identify the device that consumes the most electricity, a step that helps plan for better energy use and reduce unnecessary consumption.

In addition, the Smart Life system provides information on errors that may occur in electrical devices connected to the system via a mobile phone, thus enabling the user to take timely action.

Similarly, the user can schedule times to turn on and off electrical appliances as well as control the use of electrical sockets and switches wherever they are, as long as they have internet access.

The Smart Life system can be installed in a home with a conventional electrical system by connecting special smart sockets and switches, allowing the user to enjoy the convenience of controlling electricity usage digitally.
