Moscow’s Department of IT is implementing personal smart trackers for construction sites workers to supervise construction of public facilities.
Since the start of 2019, more than 15 building sites in Moscow have been equipped with the Personal Smart-Tracker system, which helps monitor the construction process itself and improve the safety of each worker by determining the number of staff on site and measuring the activities of different categories of workers.
The tracker is a suite of technologies incorporating a small personal device with numerous embedded sensors: а Glonass receiver, accelerometer, personification sensor and other technical devices. It transmits general information in real time to the client about workers movements around the building site, activities in their area of responsibility, and other data essential for subsequent comparison with data in the state information systems of the Construction Complex of Moscow.
More than 1000 devices are already in use in the construction of social facilities in Moscow. The information is transmitted via an energy-efficient restricted-access local wireless network to the Department of City-Building Policy of Moscow. The technology suite compares the data with those held in the state information systems and prepares analytical reports.
The tracker can be rapidly installed at any construction site without creating inconvenience. The technology can also help to keep workers safe.
According to Sergey Lyovkin, head of Moscow’s Department of Urban Development Policy, plans include integrating what he calls smart palms into the builder’s digital passport, which is being created within the information and analytical system for managing urban development. The information received from the smart palms is processed in real time, thanks to which it is possible to track what is going on at the construction site and ensure compliance with safety regulations. Introducing the smart palms is seen as one of the first steps towards creating a smart building site.
The department has also granted free access to a unified knowledge base on 5G in English. ICT Moscow is a digital platform devoted to technology. This project will enable users to keep track of the deployment of 5G mobile communication technology in Moscow.
“One of the city’s primary tasks is to help businesses better understand the opportunities presented by 5G and to encourage the development of new digital products,” said government minister Eduard Lysenko and head of the city’s DIT. “For this, DIT and ICT Moscow have launched a special project devoted to 5G, a knowledge base on the development of the latest generation in communication technology. The platform offers individuals and businesses the opportunity to submit ideas of new solutions for testing. The site already features more than 60 Russian and international case studies.”
