Fibocom and UAE-based telecommunications provider du have launched an integrated 5G artificial intelligence customer premises equipment (CPE) system. The device features an upgraded AI Network Attached Storage (NAS) system for home data management.
The solution uses Fibocom’s proprietary FWA AI SkyEngine to process data locally, allowing users to manage and search photo libraries using voice commands and keywords. The system is designed to categorise files automatically while maintaining data privacy through local edge AI processing.
Technical features of the AI CPE solution include:
- AI NAS: Keyword and voice-activated search for local file retrieval
- Local processing: Classification and recognition performed on-device for security
- Physical privacy switch: Hardware-level control for sensitive data protection
- HDMI output: Support for high-definition projection of stored media
- Network self-optimisation: Intelligent management of 5G fixed wireless access (FWA)
The operator, du, is positioning the 5G AI CPE as a premium fixed wireless access tool for residential and small business users in the United Arab Emirates. The device also integrates environmental sensing and smart home control functions.
Fibocom, founded in 1999, is a wireless communication module provider listed in China. The company’s collaboration with du is intended to transition CPE hardware from simple communication devices into intelligent home hubs.
