Construction AI has launched a project management platform specifically for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the UK construction sector. The software was developed by Steve McKenna, a Chartered Builder, using artificial intelligence tools to generate more than 700,000 lines of code.
The platform targets the 98% of UK construction firms that employ fewer than 20 people, offering enterprise-level tools at a lower price point. The system uses an AI-native architecture, with intelligence is embedded into every workflow rather than added as a secondary feature.
Technical features of the platform include:
- Semantic search: Context-aware retrieval of drawing references and specification clauses
- Automated documentation: Generation of Risk Assessment and Method Statements (RAMS) and construction programmes
- OCR-powered management: Automatic extraction and cataloguing of data from construction drawings
- Data isolation: Dedicated database and storage separation for each tenant to ensure security
- UK-specific knowledge base: Training on UK building regulations and CDM requirements
McKenna, who has 30 years of industry experience but no formal background in software development, said the platform was built to bridge the technology gap for smaller contractors who still rely on spreadsheets and paper systems.
The company is offering a limited lifetime licence for two users at £2,000. Construction AI is headquartered in Hitchin, Hertfordshire, and focuses on providing digital tools for firms that are typically priced out of major enterprise project management software.
