Caterpillar debuts autonomous and AI construction tools

Caterpillar has showcased a set of new AI and autonomous construction technologies at the CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2026 trade show. The company has demonstrated a single digital platform designed to connect jobsite operations through AI-driven assistants and autonomous machinery.
The new tools include the Cat AI Assistant, a tool designed to help operators interact with equipment and digital data to speed up decision-making. Caterpillar has also displayed its first autonomous soil compactor, the Cat CS12, alongside new collision mitigation systems for its Detect portfolio.
The products new include:
- Cat CS12: Fully autonomous soil compaction vehicle
- C3.6 and C13D: New high-horsepower industrial engines
- Cat Compact: A streamlined service and equipment destination for small contractors
- VisionLink integration: On-highway data from Geotab integrated into Caterpillar’s fleet management platform
- Services Commitment: A new programme offering next-day parts and two-day repair guarantees
Rod Shurman, president of Caterpillar’s Construction Industries Group, said the technology is intended to address industry-wide challenges including labour shortages, safety, and productivity.
Caterpillar has also announced an upgraded services framework that includes “Cat Credits” if parts or repair deadlines are not met.
