Canadian mobile satellite service operator Terrestar and physical AI company M2M Tech are working together to accelerate the development and deployment of their hybrid IoT and edge AI offerings.
In today’s world, secure, reliable communications infrastructure are essential for economic growth and productivity. As Canada moves forward with nation-building projects in remote areas, constraints on communications should not be a hurdle to operations and delivery.
Terrestar and M2M Tech have partnered to deliver what’s needed to build the future of connected and intelligent operations in Canada.
Companies and organisations with operations located beyond conventional terrestrial networks have long been looking for this; mining, forestry, utilities, energy and agriculture are a few examples of the industries that have been hampered by connectivity constraints.
This partnership will integrate Terrestar’s satellite-enabled hybrid IoT connectivity and M2M Tech’s edge AI to help organisations collect data in real time, process them at speed and act on critical information without the added latency that has been a feature of operations in remote parts of Canada.
A pilot initiative at Twinberry Farms in Pitt Meadows, British Columbia, shows this partnership in action. By combining hybrid IoT with edge AI computing, the project optimises blueberry crop production and harvesting operations. It provides live insights directly to harvest operators to streamline daily tasks, along with post-season insights to help farmers produce better growth next season. Ultimately, this makes the entire farming process more productive both now and in the future.
“Terrestar’s hybrid IoT service is built to help organisations move beyond existing network boundaries by providing a new way to get seamless cellular and satellite connectivity,” said Stéphane Miljours, director at Terrestar (terrestarsolutions.ca). “Our collaboration with M2M Tech deploys innovative technology into real-world operations. Seeing our technology in action at Twinberry Farms demonstrates how we are bringing real-time data out of the field into the users’ hands, allowing them to make more informed decisions and be more productive. This partnership helps companies work smarter, operate more safely and improve productivity, no matter the industry.”
Ashok Kasilingam, CEO of M2M Tech (m2mtechconnect.com), added: “Our shared goal is to help industries turn remote field operations into actionable intelligence. Combining Terrestar’s hybrid IoT capabilities with M2M Tech’s edge AI platform allows customers to process data where operations happen, transmit only what matters and maintain continuity even in challenging connectivity environments.”
Delivered over Canadian-licensed spectrum and operated from Canada, Terrestar’s hybrid IoT service delivers seamless connectivity beyond the reach of conventional networks. Combined with M2M Tech’s intelligent data processing, it helps organisations boost productivity, enhance safety and make data-driven decisions. These technologies are designed to close the digital divide for people and companies in rural and remote Canada.
Together, the companies will explore joint pilots in other industries, ecosystem partnerships and commercialisation pathways with partners that require resilient connectivity and intelligent field operations.
