Irish firm Taoglas has introduced a range of antennas supporting the latest Wifi 6 standard, which increases speed, efficiency and data transfer compared with previous wifi standards and can reduce congestion in heavy bandwidth areas.

According to an announcement from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in April, Wifi 6 will “play a major role in the growth of the internet of things. Wifi 6 will be over two-and-a-half times faster than the current standard and will offer better performance for American consumers. Opening the 6GHz band for unlicensed use will also increase the amount of spectrum available for wifi by nearly a factor of five and help improve rural connectivity.”

The additional 7GHz spectrum provided in Wifi 6 results in a 32 per cent additional bandwidth requirement on the antenna side.

With the introduction of Wifi 6, the firm has updated 20 existing and new wideband wifi products to support the newly established bandwidth from 5 to 7.125GHz and is working to expand its Wifi 6 portfolio even further during the second half of this year.
