Californian cloud-based software company Salesforce has invested for the sixth time in Japanese IoT firm Uhuru.

Uhuru simplifies IoT for mass adoption by orchestrating and co-ordinating devices. It is the first company to have received six separate investments from Salesforce.

Uhuru has worked with Salesforce for more than 12 years, serving as a driving force behind Salesforce’s domestic cloud market in Japan.

The Salesforce investment will be used to accelerate Uhuru’s international expansion, including expanding its IoT projects into the UK. These include UK offshore wind, smart cities, logistics, asset tracking and facility management.

Uhuru has already been developing IoT services for UK sustainability projects including the construction of an open data platform for aquaculture in Scotland. This facilitates the digital transformation of salmon farms and their broader value chain.

Uhuru has received investment from numerous high profile companies, such as SoftBank and NEC, and high profile individuals such as the Japanese rock star Yoshiki.

“We are delighted that Saleforce has again chosen to invest in Uhuru,” said Takashi Sonoda, CEO of Uhuru. “This record sixth investment pays testament to the strong and long-lasting relationship we have with Salesforce and the confidence they place in us as a partner. The funds will be instrumental to our international growth, including plans to expand our IoT business in the UK.”

Uhuru supports and promotes digital transformation and data use by businesses and society. It offers access to services such as consulting and system development based on in-house products for edge devices and the cloud. It is working on R&D in the domain of IoT plus blockchain while advocating ways to introduce and standardise a system for trusted data distribution, which can be essential for smart cities and supply chains.
