Quectel used this week’s Japan IT Week in Tokyo to showcase the EG800AK-JP LTE Cat 1bis module designed for IoT applications in Japan, which has recently received Telec certification.

The certification confirms the module complies with Japan’s radio regulatory requirements, enabling device manufacturers to integrate it into their products with confidence while reducing the complexity of local certification processes.

The module brings LTE Cat 1bis technology to the Japanese market, leveraging globally proven and widely deployed connectivity. As LTE Cat 1bis continues to gain momentum worldwide, Quectel has introduced a fine-tuned and field-proven module tailored to Japan’s requirements.

Optimised for Japan’s LTE bands, the module (www.quectel.com/product/lte-cat-1-bis-eg800ak-jp/) delivers reliable nationwide coverage and is suitable for a wide range of IoT applications. As the IoT landscape evolves beyond Cat M, NB-IoT and traditional Cat 1, LTE Cat 1bis is rapidly emerging as a mainstream connectivity standard.

“Achieving Telec certification for the EG800AK-JP reflects Quectel’s commitment to supporting the Japanese IoT ecosystem with solutions that meet local regulatory requirements,” said Yasu Okada, senior sales director at Quectel. “With this approval, device manufacturers in Japan can integrate the module with confidence, simplifying development and accelerating time to market for LTE-enabled IoT devices.”

In addition, Quectel showed its portfolio of cellular, GNSS and short-range communication modules, along with antennas and development tools that simplify IoT device design. Also on show were the QLM29H dual-band, multi-constellation GNSS receivers (www.quectel.com/product/qlm29hxaa-gm-gnss-smart-antenna-receiver/), designed to provide high-precision positioning with streamlined integration. They support dual-band L1 and L5 GNSS reception, real-time kinematic (RTK) technology for centimetre-level accuracy, and optional dead reckoning to maintain reliable positioning in difficult environments such as urban canyons and tunnels.

Featuring a plug-and-play RS232/USB interface and multi-GNSS compatibility, including GPS, Galileo, Glonass, BDS and QZSS, the QLM29H enables developers to integrate positioning capabilities seamlessly while accelerating time to market.

Quectel (www.quectel.com) is scaling local antenna production in India to enhance IoT supply chain and delivery. It has expanded its partnership with Syrma SGS Technology (syrmasgs.com), an electronics manufacturing services (EMS) provider, to manufacture IoT antennas in the country.
