Qualcomm Technologies has announced its Wi-Fi 8 portfolio, introducing new hardware for mobile devices and networking infrastructure. The lineup includes the FastConnect 8800 system and five Dragonwing networking platforms designed for AI-integrated environments.
The FastConnect 8800 is the first mobile connectivity system to utilise a 4×4 radio configuration, which the company states can reach peak speeds exceeding 10 Gbps. The system also integrates Bluetooth, Ultra-Wideband (UWB), and Thread protocols into a single-chip solution.
Technical specifications for the Wi-Fi 8 portfolio include:
- FastConnect 8800: 4×4 Wi-Fi radio with Bluetooth speeds up to 7.5 Mbps
- Dragonwing NPro A8 Elite: 5×5 radio system with an integrated Hexagon NPU for edge AI
- Dragonwing FiberPro A8 Elite: Supports 10G fiber access (PON) for operator gateways
- Dragonwing FWA Gen 5 Elite: Integrated with the Qualcomm X85 5G Modem-RF system
- Proximity AI: Centimetre-level tracking using UWB and Bluetooth channel sounding
Gautam Sheoran, Vice President and General Manager at Qualcomm, said the architecture was redesigned to meet the changing traffic profiles of AI-driven applications. The new platforms are designed to reduce latency by up to 2.5 times during peak usage compared to previous generations.
Qualcomm is currently sampling the Wi-Fi 8 solutions to customers. The company expects the first commercial products featuring these technologies to reach the market in late 2026.
