Nokia, Quantropi quantum-safe key distribution

Nokia and Quantropi have announced general availability of an integrated quantum-safe key distribution system. The system combines Quantropi’s Digital Quantum Key Distribution (D-QKD) with Nokia’s Security Management Server (SMS) to protect critical networks against future decryption threats.

The collaboration targets “Harvest Now, Decrypt Later” (HNDL) attacks, where adversaries collect encrypted data today to decrypt it once quantum computers become powerful enough. The solution provides out-of-band key delivery that does not require proprietary hardware appliances, allowing for deployment on existing carrier-grade infrastructure.

The integrated technology has been tested within Kirq, Numana’s quantum communication testbed in Canada. The platform demonstrated interoperability for telecommunications and enterprise operators, providing a software-defined method for generating and rotating encryption keys that remain resilient as post-quantum cryptography (PQC) standards evolve.

“The integration with Quantropi’s D-QKD technology enhances our Security Management Server with a powerful out-of-band key distribution capability,” said Martin Charbonneau, Head of Quantum Safe Networks at Nokia. He described the solution as operationally efficient for customers seeking to strengthen security.

James Nguyen, CEO of Quantropi, said the partnership brings quantum-safe security to real-world networks at a global scale. He noted that the solution allows organisations to mitigate HNDL risks without operational disruption or specialised hardware.
