Ohio-based Laird Connectivity is partnering Cal-Chip Connected Devices, a distributor and value-added services provider of IoT devices, to offer LoRaWan-enabled sensors and gateways that deliver wireless connectivity in remote or hard-to-reach locations.

Laird’s portfolio of LoRaWan sensors and gateways enable out-of-the-box integration and provide everything needed to create a complete device-to-cloud installation.

“Laird Connectivity is an outstanding partner that delivers the critical features and reliable wireless connectivity products needed to support the demands of growing IoT applications,” said TJ Rancour, president of Pennsylvania-based Cal-Chip Connected Devices. “We look forward to our on-going collaboration to help enterprises and new initiatives alike deploy LoRaWan faster and more efficiently.”

Cal-Chip Connected Devices is defining a class of technology distribution, meeting the needs of the quickly evolving IoT market. The company offers a broad range of standards-based IoT technology, including LoRaWan and will help Laird supply and support customers with LoRaWan implementations.

“With Cal-Chip Connected Devices’ focus on the LoRaWan technology ecosystem, it was a natural fit for Laird Connectivity and Cal-Chip to partner,” said Matt Lubeley, director of business development at Laird Connectivity.

LoRaWan is a long-range, low-power wireless platform for the IoT. This robust technology can outperform alternative wireless technologies in harsh RF environments and enables low-powered, battery-operated devices to communicate wirelessly over distances up to 15km. The LoRaWan protocol targets key IoT requirements such as bi-directional communications, end-to-end security, mobility and localisation services.

Laird Connectivity has announced the Sentrius BT610 IO sensor. Built on Laird’s expertise developing the longest range Bluetooth sensors, this Bluetooth 5 sensor platform turns wired sensors into IP67-rated, battery-operated wireless nodes that provide robust and secure messaging. Powered by Laird’s BL654 (Nordic nRF52840) Bluetooth module, the BT610 delivers full Bluetooth 5 capabilities for remote monitoring applications.

Laird has also announced the BL5340 series of Bluetooth 5.2 and 802.15.4 modules. Based on Nordic Semiconductor’s nRF5340 system-on-chip, the BL5340 is a secure dual core MCU wireless product. This module targets applications such as industrial automation, asset tracking, smart buildings and secure medical peripherals.
