ITRI, Taiwan’s Industrial Technology Research Institute, has signed multiple agreements with European partners to advance 6G technology development. The agreements focus on international standards alignment, technical trials, and integrated sensing and communications (ISAC).

ITRI facilitated a Memorandum of Understanding between the Taiwan 6G Industry Forum (6GIF) and the European 6G Smart Networks and Services Industry Association (6G-IA). The partnership aims to connect the Taiwanese and European 6G ecosystems through joint research and technology validation.

A separate cooperation agreement was signed with the Dutch Organisation for Applied Scientific Research (TNO). This agreement, part of the Future Network Services (FNS) programme, will focus on joint R&D for ISAC use cases, which combine communication infrastructure with radar-like sensing capabilities.

During the 2026 EuCNC & 6G Summit, ITRI showcased a self-developed 6G base station chipset. The hardware uses an FR3 radio-frequency front-end and high-density antenna architecture, which ITRI claims delivers nearly five times the transmission capacity of current 5G systems.

“Global 6G development is entering a new phase driven by international validation and ecosystem collaboration,” said Pang-An Ting, ITRI Vice President. He noted that ITRI is working with global partners as communications, AI, and satellite technologies converge.

The institute also demonstrated an ISAC system for drone detection and indoor positioning. These technologies are intended for applications in smart transportation, manufacturing, and airspace management.
