California-based IoT company Insteon is back. Users of the smart-home platform discovered last week that the hubs had suddenly come back online after being turned off without warning back in April.
The company emailed its customers in April saying it was dissolving the business and trying to sell its assets to pay off creditors.
A statement on the company’s web site said then that it had found itself in financial difficulty and that its problems were increased due to the pandemic. As a result, it had been trying to find a company that would take it over and invest in its products and technology.
However, a new statement has appeared on the web site by Ken Fairbanks, CEO of Insteon Technologies, saying he was leading a small group of users that had bought the company.
“Like many of you, our homes are powered by Insteon’s amazing dual-mesh technology and highly configurable products,” said Fairbanks. “Most of you discovered that the Insteon hubs began coming back online. Our first priority was getting the hubs online immediately before we had access to this site, the email service provider, social accounts, etc. Every day more customers were giving up hope so it was critical to get that restored as soon as possible.”
He said he was aware that not all functions were back online but the company was actively working on it.
“We hope you understand this urgency and appreciate your patience,” he said.
Going forward, he said the company was committed to re-building the Insteon business responsibly.
“Our commitment to you, as part of the Insteon family, is to listen, communicate and be as transparent as possible in everything we do,” he said, while encouraging users to stay tuned for updates on the web site as well as on social media platforms including Twitter, Facebook and Reddit. Insteon Hub account holders should get an email soon.
