Hitachi is acquiring German firm synvert to accelerate development and integration of Physical and Agentic AI into the company’s offerings. This is aimed particularly at enhancing Hitachi’s HMAX software suite.

HMAX is Hitachi’s AI-powered digital asset management platform. It creates a “digital twin” of physical systems to predict issues and optimise operations. The platform integrates IT and Operational Technology (OT) to process data from IoT devices and edge systems in real-time.

Development of Physical AI enhances management and integration of IoT data and objects within transportation, energy, infrastructure, smart cities, and industrial ecosystems.

The company is purchasing synvert from private equity fund Maxburg, which focuses on founder-led tech companies in German-speaking countries. synvert will become a subsidiary of Hitachi US subsidiary GlobalLogic.

Münster-based synvert provides expertise in AI-driven business design, data access and governance, integration, and operations. The company has a portfolio of over 200 clients, and specialises in data-driven business transformation. synvert partners include Databricks and Snowflake, alongside major public cloud vendors such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud.

Once the acquisition is completed, synvert will complement GlobalLogic’s capabilities in AI and digital engineering. It will also accelerate development of Agentic and Physical AI within the Hitachi Group.

The impact of the acquisition will most likely affect Hitachi’s transportation, energy, industrial and infrastructure operations first.

synvert’s strong presence in Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, and the Middle East should help expand markets for HMAX through collaboration with Hitachi Rail and Hitachi Energy.

The acquisition is expected to close in the fiscal year ending March 2026, subject to regulatory approval.
