The Global Coalition on Telecoms (GCOT), which includes the governments of the US, UK, Japan, Canada, and Australia, has released its 6G Security and Resilience Principles. The coalition has also announced that Sweden and Finland have joined as new members.

The principles are intended to guide industry research and development as the next generation of mobile networks takes shape. The document focuses on protecting 6G infrastructure from cyber and physical threats while ensuring the reliability of global supply chains.

The GCOT principles address several emerging technology trends:

  • Integration of AI and cloud-native architectures
  • Open interfaces and Open RAN certification
  • Convergence of terrestrial and satellite networks
  • Integrated sensing and communication capabilities

The initiative has received endorsement from major industry players, including BT, Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung Electronics, and Vodafone. These companies stated that the principles provide a framework for defining the standards that will underpin 6G evolution.

The participating governments said the principles are not a final regulatory framework but a starting point for dialogue with the private sector. The coalition plans to work with industry partners to implement these security objectives as 6G technology matures toward commercial deployment.
