Fibocom is collaborating with MediaTek to pioneer the FWA market with a fast-to-deploy 5G option based on its FG370 module.

The FG370 5G module is based on MediaTek’s T830 chipset and is designed to empower FWA devices with enhanced speed and optimised reference design.

The package includes the reference designs of two forms of FWA devices, CPE and MiFi, integrating with Fibocom ‘s 5G sub-6GHz module, simplifying the hardware design of FWA devices and reducing the time to market.

Leveraging multiple features of Wifi 7 technology, the CPE supports tri-band Wifi 7, delivering a high throughput and seamless in-home connectivity, while the MiFi supports dual-band Wifi 7, bringing reliable and stable network connectivity for mobile hotspot users.

The FG370 was introduced to the market in October 2022, certified by GCF and CE in early January 2023, and is now ready for mass production. By using the quad-core Arm Cortex-A55 CPU on MediaTek’s T830, it supports 4CC CA (Carrier Aggregation) and up to 300MHz of spectrum, as well as 2CC CA and up to 200MHz of spectrum, improving the use of spectrum resources and ensuring extended 5G coverage.

In addition to features such as 8RX (receive antennas) and PC1.5 high-power user equipment, the module can deliver a maximum 7.01Gbit/s on the downlink and 2.5Gbit/s on the uplink.

Fibocom plans to dive deep into the cooperation with MediaTek to launch a mm-wave version of FG370 and to introduce the storage separation capability to the module in future generations.
