Digi is celebrating the shipment of more than 25 million of its XBee wireless modules.

Since 1985, Digi has helped customers solve real-world problems across industries and use cases from autonomous robotics and precision agriculture to personal e-mobility, oil and gas operations, solar energy, intelligent street lighting, and smart city infrastructure.

“This milestone belongs to our Digi XBee customers,” said Ron Konezny, CEO of Digi. “They’ve trusted Digi to help them innovate, scale and transform their industries through wireless connectivity. Whether it’s Nasa space missions, autonomous robotics or renewable energy, Digi XBee delivers reliability and results.”

Customers can choose from broad protocol support such as Zigbee and DigiMesh for mesh networks, XBee cellular (LTE-M/NB-IoT, LTE Cat 1, LTE Cat 4) for wide-area coverage, LoRaWan for long-range applications, Bluetooth Low Energy modules for local connectivity, 802.15.4 modules for point-to-point, and the recently launched XBee for Wi-Sun module for standards-based IP mesh networking.

The XBee ecosystem provides future-proof design flexibility, enabling users to adapt to evolving connectivity requirements and seamlessly transition between protocols as technology and business needs change.

The XBee for Wi-Sun module (iotm2mcouncil.org/iot-library/news/iot-newsdesk/digi-enables-mesh-networking-at-scale-with-wi-sun/) brings secure IPv6 mesh networking to smart cities, utilities and renewable energy applications. Across the XBee ecosystem, new XBee Hive gateways provide connectivity via LTE, wifi or Ethernet with edge computing capabilities. With secure remote management through Digi Remote Manager for configuration, fleet monitoring and device lifecycle management, users can deploy and scale operations from single sites to entire regions.

From the early days of student BattleBot competitions to today’s critical infrastructure deployments, XBee (www.digi.com/xbee) demonstrates almost two decades of proven reliability across applications on and off the planet:

  • Deployed sensors in space
  • Autonomous robotic mowers maintain properties with high-precision positioning
  • Thousands of drones orchestrate aerial movement in real time
  • Utility-scale solar farms intelligently align panels to optimise energy capture and protect against hail and high winds
  • Agricultural users such as Origo.ag, Irrometer and WiseConn leverage XBee for weather monitoring and precision irrigation
  • Personal e-mobility companies are tracking fleets in real time
  • Smart cities transform street lighting into intelligent sensor networks

“Digi XBee’s success comes from helping our customers to focus on product innovation rather than connectivity complexities,” said Steve Ericson, senior vice president at Digi. “With over 25 million modules deployed, we’ve proven that Digi XBee is the leading connectivity option that allows customers to build, manage and deploy their products at scale as technology continues to evolve.”

Digi (www.digi.com) is a provider of IoT connectivity products and services, helping companies create connected products and deploy and manage critical communications infrastructures in demanding environments with high levels of security and reliability. Founded in 1985, Digi has helped users connect more than 100 million things and counting.
