Traffic and Parking Control Co. (TAPCO) has acquired MS2 (Midwestern Software Solutions). The deal combines TAPCO’s traffic safety hardware with MS2’s cloud-based transportation data management and analytics software.

MS2 provides traffic count data and analytics to more than 250 public sector agencies, including over half of the State Departments of Transportation in the US. Its modular software platform allows agencies to manage and visualise traffic data for road safety planning and maintenance. TAPCO intends to integrate these capabilities into a single platform for monitoring connected roadway infrastructure.

Eric Stangel, President and CEO of TAPCO, said the acquisition is an opportunity to expand the industry’s standard traffic data management system. He stated that uniting one of the largest traffic data platforms with TAPCO’s devices will empower agencies to manage assets while enhancing roadway and pedestrian safety.

The combined entity will offer a vertically integrated model that includes manufacturing, distribution, and software services. The platform is designed to provide an integrated solution spanning traffic safety devices, real-time monitoring, and transportation data intelligence. TAPCO stated the move supports its mission to connect roadway infrastructure through smart technology.

Founded in 1956, TAPCO manufactures intelligent transportation systems (ITS) for states and municipalities. MS2 pioneered the cloud-based Transportation Data Management System (TDMS), which has become a standard for asset management in the US. The companies stated the partnership would enable faster innovation to meet the evolving needs of the transportation market.
