Singapore-based ST Engineering has secured an $840m turnkey rail services contract for the planned Taoyuan MRT Brown Line in Taiwan.

Awarded by the Taoyuan City Government as part of a consortium with Hyundai Rotem, the project expands ST Engineering’s role in Taiwan’s rail network where it has delivered rail projects for over three decades.

ST Engineering will lead overall project management and systems integration for the project, and provide rail electronics including supervisory control and data acquisition (scada), communications, automatic fare collection and platform screen doors. Working with its partners, ST Engineering will be responsible for the overall integration and delivery of key project components, including the signalling system, track works and bulk substation building civil works, while South Korea’s Hyundai Rotem (www.hyundai-rotem.co.kr) will provide the rolling stock and power supply system.

Project execution is expected to start before the end of this year and will be delivered over eight years.

Comprising seven stations, the 11.38km Taoyuan MRT Brown Line will provide quick and direct rail connection between Taoyuan city and the greater Taipei area, improving connectivity and reducing travel time for commuters when completed. 

This project adds to ST Engineering’s global track record of more than 200 rail projects across 50 cities worldwide, underscoring its capabilities in providing end-to-end rail offerings from project management and systems integration to rail electronics.
