Leotek, a provider of AI-powered transportation and urban infrastructure, has deployed its Interlux AI traffic signal system at the Curiosity Lab smart-city living laboratory in Peachtree Corners, Georgia.
The collaboration combines Leotek’s nearly three decades of experience in the North American market with Curiosity Lab’s real-world urban environment and technology ecosystem. Interlux is now being evaluated under live traffic conditions, generating insights that should support broader adoption across US cities.
Curiosity Lab is a 5G-enabled smart city living lab. Its infrastructure includes a 4.8km test corridor for autonomous and connected vehicles, along with C-V2X connectivity, intelligent traffic signals, traffic cameras, sensors and an IoT control room. The testing environment connects directly to public roads travelled by more than 14,000 vehicles each day, allowing emerging technologies to be deployed, evaluated and refined under real-world urban traffic conditions.
Leotek’s traffic signals are deployed across more than 70% of major US metropolitan areas, giving the company experience in large-scale transportation infrastructure. The Curiosity Lab collaboration builds on that foundation by bringing AI-powered perception, connected coordination and real-time decision-making to urban intersections.
“Curiosity Lab brings together resources including Nvidia AI computing, T-Mobile 5G, C-V2X and geospatial technologies to support innovation across smart mobility and urban infrastructure,” said Pouyan Azizpour, innovation programme manager at Curiosity Lab. “We are pleased to work with Leotek to bring its Interlux AI traffic signal system to Curiosity Lab. This real-world environment allows us to evaluate its capabilities while exploring opportunities for further integration with our ecosystem and potential applications in other cities.”
Interlux combines radar-camera sensor fusion, the Nvidia Jetson Orin edge AI platform and C-V2X communications. The system can detect vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists and other road users in real time, providing insight into traffic flow and potential conflicts. These capabilities support intersection safety monitoring, emergency vehicle priority and traffic signal optimisation while giving transportation agencies a clearer view of changing roadway conditions.
“Interlux moves traffic signals beyond fixed timing by giving intersections the ability to detect and respond to what is happening on the road,” said David Tzou from Leotek. “This deployment allows us to evaluate the system under real-world conditions and continue refining its safety and operational capabilities.”
Bob Flaherty, Leotek vice president of IoT, added: “Leotek has deep roots in Silicon Valley and decades of experience serving cities across the USA. Our collaboration with Curiosity Lab brings together AI innovation, connected infrastructure and day-to-day transportation operations, creating a practical foundation for expanding this technology to more cities.”
Roadway conditions and transportation priorities vary from city to city, making flexibility, interoperability and scalability essential for intelligent transportation systems. This deployment gives Leotek insight into the operational needs of cities and transportation agencies. It should help the company develop an implementation model that can be adapted to different urban environments across the USA.
Building on this deployment, Leotek will explore opportunities to connect Interlux with Curiosity Lab’s existing infrastructure and broader technology ecosystem. The company also plans to share insights through case studies, technology demonstrations and industry events as it expands AI-powered traffic signal applications from individual intersections to corridors and citywide networks.
Leotek (leotek.com) has headquarters in Silicon Valley and Taipei. Since 1992, the company has served more than 30 countries and 300 cities worldwide. Through physical AI, edge computing and multimodal sensing, it aims to help cities build safer, smarter and more sustainable infrastructure.
Curiosity Lab (www.curiositylabptc.com) is a 5G-enabled intelligent mobility and smart city living laboratory located in the south-eastern USA near Atlanta, Georgia. Designed as a proving ground for IoT, mobility and smart city emerging technologies, the centrepiece of the lab is a 4.8km autonomous vehicle lane leveraging cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) technologies.
