Joby Aviation and Air Space Intelligence (ASI) are partnering to integrate electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft into the US National Airspace System. The collaboration aims to develop software-defined approaches for coordinating high-density air taxi operations.
The partnership will utilise ASI’s Flyways AI platform, which uses 4D modelling to optimise flight operations. The companies plan to conduct joint demonstrations and live operational exercises later this year. The initiative explores how automated airspace coordination can enable increasingly autonomous flight operations within complex, high-traffic environments.
Greg Bowles, Chief Policy Officer at Joby Aviation, said modernising the airspace is key to maintaining American leadership in aviation. He stated that the partnership helps build the intelligent infrastructure needed to integrate electric air taxis seamlessly into the national system.
The Flyways AI platform provides predictive awareness to help operators and controllers coordinate operations proactively. Bernard Asare, President of Civil Aviation at ASI, said scaling advanced air mobility requires a new operating system for the airspace. Initial results from the partnership’s live exercises are expected by the end of 2026.
